First Laminated Rafters Manufactured at Unadilla

Unadilla originally started as a lumber company in 1892. In 1906 the first wood silo was manufactured by the firm and in 1909 the Unadilla Silo Company was founded. In 1928, in conjunction with the Borden Chemical Company, Unadilla Silo manufactured what we believe to be the first laminated rafters in America.

This laminating project was side-tracked until 1957 when the Company commenced manufacture of barn rafters and arches to supplement silo sales. Within several months we were engaged in serious production of commercial members. In 1962 Unadilla Laminated Products was formed as a subsidiary of the Silo Company.

Additional manufacturing space was soon required; in 1963 the company erected a modern facility on West Road in Sidney on a 33 acre site we now occupy. Since 1963 we have continually improved and added equipment to make us better able to meet customer needs.

Unadilla Laminated Products is fully licensed by the AITC to produce all types of laminated material in accordance with the ANSI Standard. A strict quality control program, couples with workmanship of the highest quality, is required to maintain this licensing privilege.
